CCR Spring Consultation in Winnipeg

The following comes to us from WUSC in Ottawa:

The Canadian Council for Refugees (www.ccrweb.ca) is having their annual Spring Consultation from May 22-24 in Winnipeg, and they have identified youth participation as a priority. They are now offering travel subsidies to Winnipeg, as well as reduced participation fees for youth (aged 18-25).

[It] would be great to see some friendly Local Committee faces in the crowd. [This event] is a highly engaging and informative conference. Check out the CCR’s website for more information, and consider applying. (NB: the deadline for applying for a travel subsidy is Friday, 9th May!)

If you will be attending, please contact Sarah Angus so that a time can be arranged for Local Committee members to meet.

Hope to see you there!

Goodbye to our WUSC members

DecorationQuite a few members from our Local Committee will be leaving us for a while as they take part in exchange programs as part of their university studies. These persons include Bianca, Xochilt, Michelle, Erin, Elizabeth, Dan, Chiara, Andrea, Emma, Sharla and Jessica. Additionally, Nusrat will be graduating since this was her last year with us. If you encounter any of them, make sure you convey your best wishes! They will always be members and, most of all, friends of WUSC at Trent University! You all have been great supporters and contributors to this campus organization.

To that end, we would like to encourage current and future Trent University students to join and get involved with WUSC so you too can share in the great things we are doing!

Leadership Meeting and WUSC.ca request

May 5, 2008 by TrentWUSC-IT · Leave a Comment

WUSC in Ottawa would like to remind us of the following:

Every year, WUSC invites one representative from each Local Committee to attend the Uniterra Leadership Meeting. This “Launch of the Year” event will introduce new Uniterra activities, offer updates on the Student Refugee Program, enable LC members from across Canada to get to know each other, and begin the 2008-09 academic year with a splash!

This year, the Leadership Meeting will take place from August 15-18 and will be held in QUEBEC CITY! The meeting will be especially exciting because it will be offered in collaboration with the World Youth Congress (www.wyc2008.qc.ca), so representatives will get a chance to meet hundreds of youth activists from around the world. Furthermore, it will be held during Québec City’s 400th anniversary, so representatives will be able to partake in amazing festivities related to this celebration!

Each LC is invited to send ONE person to this important meeting. This representative must be:

  • A returning student;
  • An active LC member who will play a leadership role in 2008-09;
  • Available to attend the entire meeting.

NB: Bilingualism is an asset, but not mandatory. Uniterra will cover transportation, accommodation and meal expenses related to this meeting.

To register your representative for the Leadership Meeting, log into your My Committee account, select the individual from your member’s list, and specify Leadership Meeting Representative as one of their roles. If you have questions, contact Marianne Gwod (mgwod@wusc.ca).

At the same time you can view the last edition of World.Wide.WUSC.

Additionally, WUSC in Ottawa would like to get the latest contact information for the 2008-09 Local Committee chair, co-chair, secretary, etc.

The following comes to us from WUSC in Ottawa:

Spring has arrived, exams are over and the summer is just around the corner! Congratulations for making it through the year and thank you for your commitment to WUSC’s activities on your campus. At this time, we would like to update you on a few staff changes in the office.

At WUSC in Ottawa, we are saying goodbye to two great WUSC ambassadors, Kate Haddow and Isabel Mainville, Campus Liaison Officers for Western Canada and Québec/Atlantic respectively. They have been working tirelessly throughout the past year to support your efforts on campus. We would like to acknowledge their great work, commitment and passion to WUSC and its volunteers. All the best to them in their new endeavors!

We would also like to congratulate Sarah Angus for her new appointment as Program Officer for the Student Refugee Program. She has been a great value to our team for the past two years and we are very pleased that she will be continuing to support Local Committees across Canada. WUSC is currently in the process of hiring 4 new interns to help out for the 2008-09 academic year. The new interns will commence on July 7th.

Should you need to contact staff who support WUSC’s University and College programs, please refer to the list of key WUSC staff information available at www.wusc.ca/en/about/staff.
