Our Committees

The WUSC Local Committee at Trent University is made up of a Chair/Co-Chairs, a Secretary and 8 sub-committees. The coordinators of the sub-committees, along with the Chair/Co-Chairs and Secretary make up the executive body of the organization while committee members assist coordinators in carrying out important tasks.

Chair/Co-Chairs

SRP Committee

The primary objective of the SRP Committee is to provide emotional, moral and financial support to the sponsored student and to enable him/her to become independent when the sponsorship is finished. The committee also acts as a group of people who commit to the sponsorship and who agree to provide the student with emotional and social support for the duration of the sponsorship. Aside from securing the support of the university, committee members also review dossiers and ensure admission requirements for university entry are met.

SRP Finance Committee

This committee researches and establishes a reasonable budget for the sponsored student and also:

  1. Ensures that the student’s basic financial needs are met,
  2. Follows up with Blackburn Hall on the status of the student’s account,
  3. Ensures that the student’s monthly allowances are released on time.

Events Committee

We are the most important group of the WUSC Local Committee. This is because we are the money makers! The Events Committee plans all the events that members of the Local Committee take part in during the school year. Ideally, events are able to achieve a variety of goals: educational, financial and promotional. As events get larger it is even more important to delegate more leader roles. Certain events run by the university require Local Committee registration which the Events Coordinator is responsible for managing. WUSC annually participates in:

  1. A variety of university-run open house events,
  2. TIP Study Abroad Fair,
  3. One World Dinner (organized by KWIC).

Some events that have been planned in the past include:

  1. Club nights at 2nd Floor Lounge – a fund-raising event that has been very successful in the past in supporting the SRP,
  2. WUSC awareness days – where we give away free ice-cream donated by the lovely staff at Baskin Robbins!
  3. Clothing Drive – where the Trent community donates their used clothing to YES and the Peterborough Women’s shelter
  4. The VIP Dinner – another great fund-raiser for the SRP that brings awareness to Peterborough community members and business owners.

Publicity Committee

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Publicity Committee is responsible for advertising the events put on by the Local Committee. Members are responsible for:

  1. Designing posters, leaflets and other promotional items,
  2. Overseeing distribution of promotional materials,

Finance Committee
