Support the UN’s Millennium Campaign ‘Stand Up Against Poverty’
October 16, 2009 by TrentWUSC-IT · Leave a Comment
By now, you should have probably heard about this campaign from booths set up on campus. If you have not, then here is your chance to get a bit of useful information. For the fourth year in a row, WUSC, through Local Committees, will be supporting the UN’s Millennium Campaign to ‘Stand Up Against Poverty‘. This is all in an effort to send a clear and urgent message to world leaders that we want to end poverty and inequality by 2015, which happens to be one of the MDGs that 189 world leaders agreed to adopt as part of the Millennium Declaration at the United Nations Millennium Summit in September of 2000.
How can you support? Head on over to StandAgainstPoverty.org to find out how you can take action now to end poverty! Supporting can be as simple as submitting your name or hosting public events to publicize the campaign. Poverty will only end if we take an active part in its eradication. Let’s start here.

Many departments, clubs and groups that offer Study/Work Abroad opportunities for students will be present. Members from WUSC at Trent University will definitely be there! While you are there, ask about the upcoming International Seminar to be held in Nepal in 2010 and how you can get involved.
Summer has ended and it’s back to the books

Just take a minute to think about the title of this post and let it sink in. Some of us are still wishing we could have another week of summer break not having to get up early and sleeping in until midday. While this may not change for a few (unfortunately!), the reality is that university classes officially resume tomorrow if they have not done so already. This is your opportunity to pursue higher education in preparation for a future career, make life-long friends, change the world and have fun doing it all!
We understand that university life can be tough and takes time to adjust; after all, our members are students as well. We encourage you to work hard at your studies, but also take time to relax and engage in other constructive activities. Joining and participating in WUSC at Trent University is a great way of doing the latter. It is not just another extra-curricular activity; it is a way of coming together with different people and sharing ideas about how we can go about changing the world through education. Consider volunteering now and become a member of an organization that is making a difference in our world.
All the best in your final exams for Winter 2009

By the time you see this you will probably be in the middle of your final exams already, but since this is not an important update, we hope you will let this one slide. Seeing as we too are students, it is no surprise that even WUSC members are busy with their studies.
Anyway, we hope that your diligent efforts into studying will pay off when you come to sit your final exams. Remember to take time to rest, eat and breathe when necessary. You have to keep up your energy if you want to do well.
WUSC at Trent University would also like to take this time to especially wish all the best to those members who are wrapping up their academic careers here at Trent University. WUSC certainly appreciates all of your contributions to building up the organization and the work we do. While this is not the final farewell, we hope that you will continue to support WUSC or the initiatives of similar organizations wherever life takes you.
Once again, all the best in your final exams. Thanks to student members, campus faculty, advisors and members of the community for another successful year within WUSC at Trent University.
