YES Campaign and next General Meeting, 08-Mar-2010

First of all, the co-chairs and executive members of WUSC at Trent University wish to extend thanks to those persons who made an effort to attend the SRP Potluck Dinner last week Thursday. The event was very successful and everyone enjoyed sharing in the delicious food.
WUSC at Trent University is now getting ready to campaign for increasing the levy during this month’s TCSA elections. You can read more about what the Local Committee does with the funds by reading this post, which was published earlier in January. As a result, there will be a general meeting for all existing and new members tomorrow, Monday March 8th, at 5:00pm in LEC room 208. We are sorry for the short notice, but a lot of important things have to be discussed so we can get an early start on the campaign. Again, we need everybody’s participation even if you are new to WUSC.
The agenda for tomorrow’s meeting includes the following:
- Quick introduction and overview of the SRP,
- Quick review of the elections, guidelines and rules,
- Formation of the YES Committee (to be explained),
- Overview of tasks for the campaign,
- Task distribution,
If you cannot attend the meeting, but are still interested in helping out, please inform the co-chairs. Meeting minutes will be passed on for reading in your own time.
Levy petition success and next general meeting

WUSC at Trent University is very excited to announce that we succeeded in getting enough votes in last week’s petition for the levy increase. Not only did we receive enough votes, but we surpassed our target of 700! The more than 1000 signatures collected came from Trent University students who support the Local Committee’s on-going efforts to sponsor two students next academic year. Thanks to all those who signed the petition and those hard-working members who accepted responsibility for collecting signatures. We could not have done it without you! Drawing from the success of this petition, we can now move forward to the next stage – that is, campaigning for the levy increase in the March 2010 elections. Our strategy for the campaign will be discussed in the next General Meeting to be held at 5:00pm on Friday, January 29th, in room 208 of LEC. General meetings are intended for all local committee members and prospective members are invited to attend.
General Meeting on November 23, 2009

Our next WUSC general meeting will be held on Monday, 23rd November, 2009, at 5:00pm in the LEC Pit. During the meeting, an update will be made concerning the Afghanistan Challenge project and our path forward from here. Come to hear about the success that WUSC, in collaboration with the TMSA, MESA, TUPS, SAAT, Trent Active Minds and the TCSA, has had with the Afghanistan Challenge and to give your input on future projects.
All executive and general members are encouraged to attend this meeting. Furthermore, you will not want to miss the awesome cookies! And, as always, if you are interested in joining WUSC at Trent University, feel free to attend. Bring a friend or two along who may also be interested!
Locating the LEC Pit
The Pit is a meeting space for student groups. It is located in the Lady Eaton College (West Bank) adjacent to the LEC cafeteria.

Once again, we wish to welcome all new and returning students to Trent University and to WUSC in general. We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead filled with lots of great activities in which you can participate!
The first general meeting will be held on Monday, 28th September, 2009, at 5:00pm in the LEC Pit. General meetings are intended for all members; new or interested members are especially invited to attend. The meeting will consist of an overview of what WUSC is all about, descriptions of our sub-committees and how you can get involved in various events and campaigns. Refreshments will be served.
So take an hour out of your study schedule, bring your friends, and come to a fun yet informative meeting where you will learn how “Education Changes the World”!

By now you should be getting settled back into classes and gearing up for another semester here at Trent University. To kick off the new year, WUSC at Trent University will be having a General Meeting for all current and interested members on Thursday, January 8th, in the Lady Eaton College Pit (Meeting Space) Morton Reading Room (Champlain College, opposite the TIP Office). The meeting will begin at 7:00pm and should last for an hour. We look forward to seeing you there!
