Leadership Meeting and WUSC.ca request

May 5, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

WUSC in Ottawa would like to remind us of the following:

Every year, WUSC invites one representative from each Local Committee to attend the Uniterra Leadership Meeting. This “Launch of the Year” event will introduce new Uniterra activities, offer updates on the Student Refugee Program, enable LC members from across Canada to get to know each other, and begin the 2008-09 academic year with a splash!

This year, the Leadership Meeting will take place from August 15-18 and will be held in QUEBEC CITY! The meeting will be especially exciting because it will be offered in collaboration with the World Youth Congress (www.wyc2008.qc.ca), so representatives will get a chance to meet hundreds of youth activists from around the world. Furthermore, it will be held during Québec City’s 400th anniversary, so representatives will be able to partake in amazing festivities related to this celebration!

Each LC is invited to send ONE person to this important meeting. This representative must be:

  • A returning student;
  • An active LC member who will play a leadership role in 2008-09;
  • Available to attend the entire meeting.

NB: Bilingualism is an asset, but not mandatory. Uniterra will cover transportation, accommodation and meal expenses related to this meeting.

To register your representative for the Leadership Meeting, log into your My Committee account, select the individual from your member’s list, and specify Leadership Meeting Representative as one of their roles. If you have questions, contact Marianne Gwod (mgwod@wusc.ca).

At the same time you can view the last edition of World.Wide.WUSC.

Additionally, WUSC in Ottawa would like to get the latest contact information for the 2008-09 Local Committee chair, co-chair, secretary, etc.

Upcoming WUSC SRP webtrain session

March 22, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

The following comes to us from WUSC.ca:

In our last webtrain session we reviewed the next steps in the sponsorship process. It is now time to start planning for the end of this year’’s and the beginning next year’’s sponsorship.

Often the transition to the end of sponsorship is not seen as a priority for many committees. Before everyone leaves for the summer break WUSC is offering an online training session to discuss concrete ways to support your current sponsored student in their transition to independence. We will also be reviewing essential topics which should be covered in the orientation for sponsored students.

This online training session is designed especially for new Local Committees, or those who have experienced significant turnover and have new members coordinating the sponsorship(s).

The session will address such things as:

  • Transition and post-sponsorship (April –to September)
  • Preparing and delivering an orientation
  • Arrival (including late arrival)
  • Discussing expectations

The workshop will be held in English only on Thursday, March 27th at 1:00PM EST. The session will last approximately one hour, although we ask participants to login 10 minutes before the workshop starts.

The deadline for RSVPs is Tuesday, March 25th if you wish to participate.

Please contact the secretary for more details on what you need to include in the RSVP and to whom you need to send it.
