First General Meeting 2011/2012

As a way to start this academic year, the members of WUSC at Trent University held a General Meeting in the Morton Reading Room at Champlain college on Monday, September 26 2011.

The Meeting had a casual tone, where a group interested students were able to meet the current executive members of WUSC at Trent University as well as two sponsored students of Trent University.

Our goal is to create awareness on campus of WUSC and to engage students to participate and volunteer in our campaigns and events.During the meeting we gladly introduced the attendants to our mission as a WUSC group on campus, we discussed our reasons for pursuing an active role as executive members, and we encouraged the attendants to volunteer.

We informed the attendants and now we inform you, dear reader, that we will pursue two major campaigns for the year and in a smaller scale the committee will also host small activities for awareness and fundraising.

We will pursue Her Challenge Your Challenge, a campaign which aims to recognize and echo challenges faced by women around the world and Canada.We will be combining it with Shine A Light, a campaign that aims to help girls in refugee camps studying and excel as the ratio of girls to boys in school is 1:4.
Buy Into Change: Ethical Purchasing is the second campaign that we will be pursuing this year, it aims to make fair trade a global practice through ethical purchasing at the local level.
